Where do you start with this man so full of vitality, a towering intellect, scientific rigour and above all, compassion and caring? A shining beacon of humanity and science and a great example to us all from whatever discipline (and mine is primary care) My thoughts go to his family first and foremost who loss will be most hard felt, but they can be filled with pride for what he has achieved. My professor, friend, inspirer. Anyone who knew him will always remember his enthusiasm for life, work, patients, family and friends. It's having all the qualities in one person, and it was just like that, generosity, humility, organization, charisma and intelligence in a single person. Marcus shone in this world in a unique and unforgettable way. He made history in the world of urticaria. He managed to create the urticaria experts (UCARE), a global family in favor of urticaria. Yes, he came into this world to make all the difference. I will honor all the teachings I received from him in each patient I see. Your name will always be remembered. Marcus, you will always be in my heart, in my soul, in my prayers.

Marcus will always be remembered as an incredibly enthusiastic and empathetic person. I have strongly admired his excellent research in the field of urticaria. What great developments have occurred here in recent years! Also, Marcus was an extremely friendly colleague who supported my move from Leipzig to Berlin by finding solutions for problems arising. I am very happy to be part of this IFA team. We will continue our work in his spirit. Marcus will never be forgotten.

Dear Marcus, I still can't believe you are gone. I remember the early morning at the airport when we started chatting on the way to the meeting in Toulouse. You mentioned that you would be going on a lecture tour in China in July and told me about your family members' connection to Chongqing, which I found truly amazing. Marcus, you were a respected professor and a dear friend, all I hope is that you have not suffered and have gone to a better place. Your will be my lighthouse for eternity.

I met Dr. Maurer in 2015. It was an EADV symposium. Since that year, my teammates and I have conducted clinical research and published articles. We have learned a lot from him. I visited his clinic. He also honored us by coming to Kayseri-TURKEY. I will never, ever forget him. I will think of him every time I see a patient with urticaria. He was a friendly, sincere, helpful, and modest scientist. I never thought that one day we would lose him at a young age. MAY GOD BLESS HIM. I WANT TO MEET IN HEAVEN AND LAUGH TOGETHER LOOKING IN HIS EYES.

Someone so special will never be forgotten!!!

My first contact with Marcus was when I asked him, still a student of molecular medicine, for his opinion on a research group abroad that I wanted to enquire about a research stay. Without knowing me, he helped me quickly and willingly. Years later, I moved into science management and became his personal assistant and coordinator. Even though I only worked with him for a very short time, he left a great impression on me and the news of his disappearance and death shocked me deeply. In addition to his impressive scientific achievements, his many ideas and projects and his ability to build and utilise networks, Marcus was above all a human role model for me. Never dismissive and always with an open ear and an open mind for everyone who learnt from him or sought his advice. The scientific system could really do with more leaders of his calibre. I always thought we would meet again. How sad that this will no longer happen. My thoughts are with everyone who now has to come to terms with this great loss.

Danke, Marcus! He got me interested in the mast cell 23 years ago and hired me. This was the best thing that could have happened to me. Since then, we have worked together on a basis of trust. Marcus has always been a role model for me and always more of a friend than a boss. His interactions with all people, colleagues, patients and partners were characterized by great respect and patience. He never dismissed the ideas and suggestions of others, but helped to develop them further. He allowed others to shine alongside him and was happy about it. From the very beginning, he established flat hierarchies in our working group and later in the institute and placed great value on communicative and friendly cooperation and also lived by example. I can't remember him ever condescending to anyone. Despite his busy schedule, he was always ready to listen to everyone. If something went wrong, he didn't waste a minute looking for someone to blame, but instead immediately set about solving the problem. It was important to him that everyone enjoyed their work and he did this successfully. With his charisma, energy and enthusiasm, he impressed many people inside and outside our working group and opened up paths for them that they would not have taken without him. I am grateful for the many happy, instructive and successful moments I was able to experience with him. The time I spent with him shaped me. I will never forget him. Thank you, Marcus!

In tribute to an essentially good person, a friend who said "let's enjoy our work", let's always make it fun, fun. His science contributed enormously in translational, multidisciplinary ways to the field of urticaria and mast cell-mediated diseases. A good person who cordially united the efforts of his followers. His followers distributed throughout the world. Followers stimulated by his great ability as a speaker, by his irresistible appeal and by the clarity of his messages. A respectful man, often even simple and always transparent. A lover of his family, of his entire family. A global, multifaceted man whom we all love. We will miss you every day. All people have their value on this planet. Their stories are mostly anonymous, but they tell lives full of emotions, losses and achievements. However, there are those who stand out for leading in a unique way, with empathy, wisdom and being able to see beyond their time. Marcus Maurer was and will continue to be this special and outstanding person, because he inspired generations to change the lives of patients with urticaria, angioedema and mastocytosis. It brought doctors and patients together around the world working for a dream of better days, managing to unite science across borders. Marcus was a Teacher, Leader and Friend. I appreciate every opportunity to meet with him, discuss ideas with him, and publish articles under his leadership. May God welcome him into the pantheon of just and worthy doctors in Medicine, along with so many who echoed his voice and his work at the Charité, in Berlin. Marcus, you are eternal in your legacy studing the "Mastzellen" described by Paul Ehrlich. Hug from your Brazilian friend. My gratitude for your life, "Paolo". My heartfelt condolences to his family. Shine with the stars in heaven, dear friend!
