The fact that he combined his undisputed scientific expertise with a collaborative, positive, humble, and inclusive personality makes it even harder to accept his passing. His works and the networks he built will live on forever. Rest in peace Marcus

I met Marcus when I was working as marketing manager for omalizumab at Novartis in Germany. It was in the fall of 2008 when we saw the results of the X-CUISITE study, the first large study to investigate omalizumab in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria. The results were absolutely impressive. From that day on, Marcus went in and out of Novartis in Basel and did everything he could to ensure that Novartis applied for approval for omalizumab in this indication. He was the one who convinced one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies to initiate the indication expansion. It is absolutely fair to say that without him there would not be this important treatment option available that is helping thousands of patients around the world. It is beyond imagination that Marcus is no longer physically with us. His soul is immortal and will forever inspire everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Marcus showed us that true purpose and passion can move mountains. My thoughts are with his family and the amazing Charité team.

What a loss for the scientific community and for his family. I had the great pleasure of working with Marcus as a research fellow at his lab at Charité and I remember all the great inspirational talks we had. Somehow Marcus was able to have 10.000 projects going on but still give you his undivided attention when you needed his input and mentoring. And he was a fun guy to be around! I remember him trying to recruit all of us for a exercise-induced urticaria trial - even he had trouble selling the idea of being wrapped in plastic on an exercise-bike with someone collecting your sweat with a straight face ???? I do belive he did it himself though! He will be missed by many, and my heart goes out to his family ❤️

Thank you Marcus. You were an incredible teacher, an inspiring lecturer, and a dedicated researcher. Your passion for medicine and ability to simplify the complex left a lasting impact on all of us who had the privilege of learning from you. From the first time we worked together on the Omalizumab urticaria symposium, World Congress of Dermatology in Vancouver (2015) you were always so kind to me as a newcomer to the stage. I was honoured to work with you and share your enthusiasm for teaching. Your contributions to research, education and patient care were invaluable, and you will be deeply missed. Thank you, Prof Marcus Maurer for your lasting legacy.

Charismatic, warm-hearted, knowledgeable, inspiring, positive, constructive and above all trustworthy...
In a distant 2015 I approached the big figure - prof Marcus Maurer - at the Word Congress of dermatology. We were studying opsin and chryptochrome photoreceptors in human skin and at that time we did not look at immune cells, while immune cells are so important. I wanted his help.
Marcus checked the novelty and immidiately understood this is a fascinating topic: light, photoceptors in the skin and mast cells. And this year we were finalizing the publication……
His voice, charismatic smile and positive constructie attitude to work and life are unforgettable-they were filling the rooms at EADV and ESDR and at Charite.
We all miss you!

Ruhe in Frieden, Marcus. Vergessen werden wir dich nie. ????
Many years ago I got married, left my country, and then interrupted my career to have a child. At that dark moment of my life, you gave me the opportunity to return to the world of dermatology and realize my dream. I am just one of the countless young scholars you have helped. In my mind, you "are" still with us, just extended your vacation indefinitely...
