The fact that he combined his undisputed scientific expertise with a collaborative, positive, humble, and inclusive personality makes it even harder to accept his passing. His works and the networks he built will live on forever. Rest in peace Marcus

I met Marcus when I was working as marketing manager for omalizumab at Novartis in Germany. It was in the fall of 2008 when we saw the results of the X-CUISITE study, the first large study to investigate omalizumab in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria. The results were absolutely impressive. From that day on, Marcus went in and out of Novartis in Basel and did everything he could to ensure that Novartis applied for approval for omalizumab in this indication. He was the one who convinced one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies to initiate the indication expansion. It is absolutely fair to say that without him there would not be this important treatment option available that is helping thousands of patients around the world. It is beyond imagination that Marcus is no longer physically with us. His soul is immortal and will forever inspire everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Marcus showed us that true purpose and passion can move mountains. My thoughts are with his family and the amazing Charité team.

Thank you Marcus. You were an incredible teacher, an inspiring lecturer, and a dedicated researcher. Your passion for medicine and ability to simplify the complex left a lasting impact on all of us who had the privilege of learning from you. From the first time we worked together on the Omalizumab urticaria symposium, World Congress of Dermatology in Vancouver (2015) you were always so kind to me as a newcomer to the stage. I was honoured to work with you and share your enthusiasm for teaching. Your contributions to research, education and patient care were invaluable, and you will be deeply missed. Thank you, Prof Marcus Maurer for your lasting legacy.

Dear Marcus, Thank you for your example as a doctor, researcher and leader. We will never forget you. Your legacy will be multiplied and immortalized. Rest in peace.

Many years ago I got married, left my country, and then interrupted my career to have a child. At that dark moment of my life, you gave me the opportunity to return to the world of dermatology and realize my dream. I am just one of the countless young scholars you have helped. In my mind, you "are" still with us, just extended your vacation indefinitely...

You were the best of the best! Your energy, your unwavering positivity, your strength, and the way you brought everyone together will be deeply missed. Your charisma was remarkable, and your smile was infectious. I wish you the happiest afterlife. You will always remain in our hearts!

Dear teacher，we miss you and very love you. We will continue your unfinished work about urticaria and mast cells with your spirit. I have the opportunities to meet you in changsha and we take the last precious photoes with you and listen your fantastic presentings. I can't forget all the days with you in Berlin. And I am grateful for all of your help to answer the questions and to publish the papers. I had told you I will come back to work and study with you one day in future,but it had became a unrealizable dream. Dear marcus ,we will remember you and when the teacher's day coming, please let me to say thanks to you and you are always the best of my teachers. And I till don't want to believe your leave to us forever because your smiles ,kindness, passions and so on will always stay with us ,encourage us ,lead us .So we love you forever and I think one day we will meet in heaven .

I hope that Marcus' family and friends find some peace in the tremendous amount of love and support from our entire industry in this time of grief.

I'm so sorry to hear about prof Marcus’s passing. On behalf of the allergy community in Qatar, we want to send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. Marcus made such a big impact in our field, and his work will always inspire us. Our center is the only GA2LEN accredited center in Qatar and he contributed to our academic milestone development through connection with international community of researchers, scientists and experts in the field of urticaria and angioedema.
