It is with a heavy heart that I write this condolence message for Professor Marcus Maurer. I had the immense privilege of working with him from 2011 to 2014, and those years were among the most meaningful in my life and career. Marcus was not only an extraordinary clinician and brilliant scientist but, above all, a deeply compassionate human being. Despite being one of the busiest people in the world, he always made time to help others with a generosity of spirit that was truly rare.
I learned so much in his lab, and I am forever grateful for his guidance and support. Without his mentorship, I could not have reached the goals I have today. His impact on my life and career is immeasurable, and I will always cherish the memories of the time we spent together.
Marcus, it is heartbreaking to have to remember you in this way. I wish I could have expressed to you just how much I respected you, how much I admired you, and how often I thought of you—both when you were here and even now that you are gone. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone you touched. Whether in this world or another, you will forever remain alive in my heart and memory.
I will miss you, Marcus, and I will always carry your smile and your kindness with me.
With deepest respect and sorrow,
Rohit
Thanks for walking into my life and for being part of my life journey. I will always remember all the academic and life advice you had given me. You changed the course of my career path and the way I think completely. Globally, you have inspired countless people and touched their life through your positive attitude, life philosophy, generosity, charisma, open heart and warmth -- including me. We will always be grateful for your contribution to humanity. You will always, always be remembered, Marcus.
Many people walk into our lives. Sometimes, someone so special walks into yours, leaving an indelible mark, completely changing the course, direction and future path of your career and life. And you are eternally grateful to have met this special person.
That’s Marcus to me, and to many, many others whom I know as well.
Thank you so much, Marcus, for the kindness, generosity, mentorship, collaboration, inspiration, encouragement and opportunities you had provided. I will always remember your compassion, teaching and guidance.
No words could describe my gratitude to you, Marcus.
May you rest in peace.

Dear Marcus, Jodie, family, colleagues
There are encounters and friendships which outshine any imaginable light, blinded by an exceptional being. Marcus is that beacon.
We met in late 2005, as Marcus had shown interest in afamelanotide as a possible therapy in his domain of interest, urticaria. Marcus' passion to find solutions for his patients transcends the enthusiasm of most physicians, he has an explorative mind, a phantasy which only he knows how close it can come to realization.
The journey with Marcus lasted 19 years, full of adventures to EMA, Bfarm, GKV, AAD, BAD and many more occasions. His humour, joie de vivre and unbridled optimism is exceptional, his energy level contagious.
At 58 years he leaves a vacuum, a place not to be filled but one to remember to be aware of. The best remedy to loss of a dear colleague and human is by an insistence to keep speaking and thinking about the professional, the inspirer.
There are so many things we wanted to say, to exchange and to build on, but the last occasion was not offered to us. I personally will miss Marcus' quick calls, wit, intelligence, persistence, insights and ability to think further than most.
My deep appreciation for what you are, what you accomplished and the being you have become.
Our condoleances to Jodie and your children, we cannot imagine what you are going through.

Marcus, you were always everyone's big brother or even father. I looked up to you a great deal and you cared about people through and through, in every aspect of their lives. Lieber Marcus,

We still have no words for this terrible loss. Beside his inspiring personality we remember Marcus as a men who was connecting people, and even countries and continents. He used his endless energy, enthusiasm, and influence to support other colleagues all over the world to support the network he built up and we are all part of.
He twice took part in a thesis defense and ceremony on urticaria in Utrecht. Moreover, he was a speaker at the Annual meeting of the Dutch Society of Dermatology where the first guideline on urticaria was presented.
We are enormous thankful for his support and will continue his work in the way he inspired us.
We wish Marcus family and friends all the power they need to overcome this loss.

Some people are unique and Prof. Maurer was one of them. He will live forever in our memories as someone who united and motivated a generation of experts. Rest in peace. May God comfort your family.
I worked with Marcus a few times as part of the team producing the UCARE podcast series. This had a personal impact on my own life by alerting me to the fact that a simple daily antihistamine could banish my daughter's mild but annoying chronic urticaria. I'm very glad I had the opportunity to tell Marcus this. He touched so many lives with his passion for outreach and education and will be deeply missed.
